When it looks as though life shouldn’t involve these things, or isn’t meant to be this way, it seems that this is the way it’s always been. Any Olympic athlete will know about tough times, determination and resolve to the end. So ‘Winter Olympics’ was the theme of this year’s Winter Camp, with variations on figure skating, bob-sledding, curling and triathlon competitions (in -10 deg°C!) giving a little flavour!

There were encouraging signs of genuine Hungarian faith throughout the weekend. One pastor drove 5 of his youth in a mini-bus on a 12-hour round trip to get them to camp. Another young girl who was so inspired by the message of Christianity on last year’s ACORNCAMPS brought her Cypriot friend along so she could hear for herself.

Essentially, there was a call to the 40 people there to be friends and followers of Christ; and to persevere in this fight in the strength God gives. One Hungarian teenager wrote: “I have been strengthened by God not to give up fighting for my faith, in spite of any kind of obstacle. In this battle I am not alone (as Paul was not either). I have one thing to do: turn to Christ for help! He was with Paul and is with me now.”

Another Christian teenager who had been struggling with not spending personal time with the Lord reflected at the end of the camp. “Then the difficulties were much more unbearable, I felt they were stronger than me and they crunch me. When I started to pray again and to read the guide book [daily Bible notes], I started to think about the words, what can they tell me. Then the difficulties became much more bearable and tiny.”

We praise the Lord Jesus for introducing himself to some, and strengthening many in their faith and walk with Him.
