About Acorn Camps
Our History: 10 years experience of running 44 camps
Since 2001 Acorn Camps have run
- …Over 44 English language Bible camps in Hungary…
- …in partnership with 7 local Hungarian churches
- …providing the opportunity for 1,100 teenagers to hear the gospel clearly proclaimed
- …330 team places have been filled by over 100 volunteers who have returned again and again building good links with Hungarian Christian leaders
The aim of the camps is very much to work alongside the local churches providing an additional evangelistic opportunity.
Our Aims
- To communicate the gospel to young people in Hungary in an effective and faithful way through partnership with local churches
- To share good practice in youthwork between churches in Hungary and the UK
- To work/partner with Hungarian churches in training youth pastors & elders in Hungary
- To provide mission opportunities and training for Christians from the UK
- To encourage Hungarian churches in their mission to reach young people in their local church and greater Hungary
- To see a generation of Hungarian young people reach for Christ in the heart of Europe
Our Values
- A dependency on God through prayer – the work is God’s and we need to depend on him
- Building the local church – we are committed to serving and building up the local church
- Founded on truth – the Bible forms what and how we live and teach the gospel
- Culturally engaged – wanting young Christians to engage with the culture they live in
- Quality – in all we do.
Why Hungary?
MARRIAGE Andy & Zsófi (the founding directors of Acorn Hungary Trust) are from the UK & Hungary respectively. Therefore it was natural to establish a work that brought both the cultures, languages and Christian heritage together for the growth of the gospel.
STRATEGIC Hungary is surrounded by 7 nations (Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia) and due to her history has a significant Hungarian population in each of these countries. The vision is to partner with Hungarian churches in running camps in all these 7 countries. We are already running camps in Slovakia.
