Acorn Camps. English Bible Camps for Hungarian Teenagers.

History

History of the camps

The first teenage camp was run through Scripture Union Hungary (Szentírás Szövetség) in 2001 when Andy Oatridge was working in Hungary as a volunteer for them.  The teenage work has since developed over the years and is now managed and led by Acorn Hungary Trust, which is supported by Christ Church Fulwood (Sheffield).  We still have good links with Szentírás Szövetség and the camps are either run in association with them, or directly with local Hungarian churches.

Last summer we organised five teenage camps (14-18yrs) and a discipleship/training camp for Christians (18+yrs).

The aim of the camps

The primary aim of the camps is to encourage the local churches through running these camps where Christian teenagers can be built up and non-Christians can be challenged with God’s word. Therefore the camps are unashamedly Bible-based and gospel focused, with the talks and meetings forming the core part of all that goes on.   Having said that a second aim is to have as much fun as possible doing the above.  The bonus, and often the attraction of the camps is the opportunity to practice their English with native speakers.
